Changing Diabetes® World Tour
Driving diabetes awareness through screening
Since 2006, the Changing Diabetes® World Tour – also known as the Changing Diabetes® Bus – has travelled five continents to raise awareness on diabetes and its social, humanitarian and economic consequences.
Targeting the broader public, people with diabetes, healthcare professionals and politicians, the Changing Diabetes® World Tour has called for global change in diabetes prevention and care and played an integral role in the adoption and implementation of the United Nations Resolution on diabetes.
More than 260,000 people have visited the bus and learned about risk factors, symptoms and prevention of diabetes. Healthcare professionals have carried out free blood sugar screenings, and specialists such as dieticians, endocrinologists and others have been available for free consultations.
From 2010, the Changing Diabetes® World Tour will give the general public access to a broader range of high-quality diabetes screening and continue to drive diabetes awareness by focusing on the benefits of detecting and treating diabetes earlier. A total of 285 million people worldwide are estimated to have diabetes, many of which are unaware of their condition. Detecting, treating and stabilising the disease before it progresses into irreversible complications will not only improve the quality of life for people with diabetes but also save scarce healthcare resources.
The World Tour is done in collaboration with Novo Nordisk affiliates, local patient associations, professional organisations, municipalities, health ministries and the Steno Diabetes Center.
